Grand Junction, CO – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of western Colorado and eastern Utah, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions through 6 p.m. MST Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Junction, areas including the Roan and Tavaputs Plateaus, the Upper Gunnison River Valley, and the Eastern Uinta Mountains will see additional snow accumulations ranging from 4 to 12 inches. Wind gusts could reach up to 45 mph, further reducing visibility.
In Colorado, the Upper Gunnison River Valley, including Gunnison and Cimarron, could see the heaviest snowfall, with up to a foot of accumulation. The Roan and Tavaputs Plateaus may receive as much as 9 inches. In Utah, the Eastern Uinta Mountains are expecting up to 5 inches above 7,500 feet.
Travel could be extremely difficult, especially during the Friday morning and evening commutes. Officials urge drivers to use caution and check road conditions by dialing 511. Strong winds may lead to blowing snow, making visibility poor in higher elevations.
Residents are advised to prepare for winter conditions by securing outdoor items, limiting unnecessary travel, and dressing warmly. The storm is expected to taper off by Saturday evening.
