Quad Cities, IA/IL — A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of Iowa and Illinois, with dangerously low wind chills expected through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures in counties including Dubuque, Linn, and Jo Daviess could feel as cold as -30°F on Sunday morning and -23°F early Monday. Sunday’s advisory lasts until noon, while Monday’s begins at 3 a.m. and continues until 11 a.m.

Wind chills this extreme can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Residents are urged to wear layered clothing, hats, and gloves and to limit outdoor activity. Pets should be kept indoors, and older adults or vulnerable neighbors should be checked on.

NWS also cautions against improper use of portable heaters, grills, or generators indoors, as they can pose carbon monoxide risks.

With similarly frigid temperatures predicted for Tuesday morning, residents across the region, including Cedar Rapids, Freeport, and Maquoketa, should remain vigilant and prepare for ongoing cold conditions.
