Buffalo, NY – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of western and central New York, with significant lake effect snow expected to impact travel and daily routines.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will last from 10 p.m. Sunday to 4 p.m. Monday in Niagara, Orleans, and Monroe counties, where 4 to 8 inches of snow are forecast in the heaviest bands. For Wayne and northern Cayuga counties, the advisory extends from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, with snow totals of 3 to 6 inches expected.

The hazardous conditions are likely to disrupt Monday commutes, with slippery, snow-covered roads reducing visibility and making travel dangerous. Authorities warn that lake effect snow often falls in narrow bands, creating rapidly changing road conditions.

Residents are urged to prepare for difficult travel and allow extra time for their Monday plans. Those driving should keep emergency kits in their vehicles and stay updated on weather conditions.

Snow reports can be submitted via the National Weather Service’s website or social media platforms. This winter weather advisory follows recent snowstorms in the region, underscoring the importance of preparedness as conditions intensify.
