La Crosse, WI – A dangerous cold snap is gripping the region, with wind chills dropping as low as -35 through Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory, urging residents to limit outdoor activities to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.

According to the National Weather Service, the coldest temperatures will hit Sunday morning, with wind chills ranging from -25 to -35 degrees across southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, including along I-90. Frostbite can occur within 10 minutes on exposed skin, making it vital to cover all skin and dress in layers.

Sunday’s high is expected to remain near zero degrees, with overnight lows plunging to -9 degrees. Monday brings slightly warmer conditions, but wind chills will still hover around -20 to -25. By Tuesday, the area will experience a daytime high of 3 degrees before another subzero night.

Residents should take precautions, including keeping pets indoors and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready. Public safety officials advise against non-essential travel during the coldest periods, as car trouble or delays could be life-threatening.

The bitter cold is expected to ease slightly by Wednesday, with highs climbing into the 20s. However, the National Weather Service warns that another Arctic blast could return by late week.
