Wilmington, NC – Rain showers on Sunday will give way to a sharp drop in temperatures and possible snow by Tuesday night. Local forecasters are warning residents to prepare for icy roads and cold weather as a strong system moves into the region.

According to the National Weather Service, showers are likely Sunday, with highs reaching 64°F. The rain will taper off Sunday night, but Tuesday night brings a 70% chance of snow as temperatures fall to 22°F. The first flakes could arrive Tuesday afternoon, with roads potentially becoming slick by evening.

Residents should take precautions, such as winterizing vehicles and ensuring homes are ready for freezing conditions. The snowy weather is expected to continue into Wednesday morning before skies clear later in the day.

Monday will offer a brief reprieve with sunny skies and a high of 39°F. However, colder air will dominate midweek, with Wednesday’s high only reaching 32°F. Snow showers may still linger early Wednesday, especially in areas near the coast.

Drivers on I-40 and U.S. Route 17 should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions Tuesday evening into Wednesday. Emergency crews advise staying off the roads during heavy snowfall and to monitor local updates for real-time advisories.

Stay tuned to local forecasts and prepare for potential delays as this system develops.
