Pittsburgh, PA – Residents in western Pennsylvania are bracing for significant snow accumulation and dangerously cold temperatures as a winter storm moves through the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective Saturday night through Sunday, with snow expected to linger into Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service, areas near the West Virginia ridges, including Tucker and Preston counties, could see up to 12 inches of snow, while Pittsburgh and surrounding areas may accumulate 4–6 inches. Travel is likely to be hazardous, with icy conditions on major roadways such as I-79 and Route 22. Residents are urged to limit unnecessary travel and stay updated on road conditions.

An Extreme Cold Watch will take effect late Sunday night and continue through Thursday morning. Temperatures are expected to plummet as low as -9°F, with wind chills reaching -25°F. The National Weather Service warns that frostbite can occur in under 30 minutes on exposed skin. Homeowners are advised to insulate pipes and check heating systems to prepare for prolonged freezing temperatures.

Looking ahead, Martin Luther King Day is forecast to be partly cloudy with a high of 11°F, followed by highs in the teens through midweek. Officials stress the importance of layering clothing and avoiding prolonged exposure to the cold.
