Peoria, IL – Light snow is expected to fall across central Illinois overnight Friday into Saturday morning, with minimal accumulation.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln reported Friday that most areas in central Illinois will see less than one inch of snow. However, a 25% chance exists for snowfall reaching up to one inch in regions east of I-57 and north of I-70.
The snowfall will likely begin late Friday and taper off early Saturday. Roads could become slick, especially during the early morning hours, prompting drivers to exercise caution.
Bitterly cold temperatures will follow the snow. The NWS forecasts wind chills ranging from -5 to -20 degrees beginning Saturday night and lasting through Wednesday. These conditions may pose a risk of frostbite with prolonged outdoor exposure.
Residents are advised to limit time outdoors during the coldest periods and to dress in layers to stay warm. Spotter activation is not expected, but local weather reports will continue to monitor the situation.
