Quad Cities, IA/IL – Northwest winds reaching 40 mph are expected Friday evening, bringing hazardous conditions to the region. The National Weather Service issued a warning for eastern Iowa, northwest Illinois, and northeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service, the wind gusts will persist overnight, creating travel difficulties and potential power disruptions. On Saturday night, a Cold Weather Advisory will take effect north of Interstate 80, where wind chills could plummet to -25°F by Sunday morning.
The bitter cold will intensify Sunday night through Tuesday morning, with wind chills ranging from -15°F to -30°F across affected areas. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure and take precautions to protect pets, pipes, and vehicles. Additional weather advisories are anticipated as the cold persists.
Spotter activation is not required, but residents should monitor updates for any changes.
