Newport, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina should brace for dangerously cold wind chills Wednesday morning, with values expected to drop as low as 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

The National Weather Service issued a Cold Weather Advisory for areas including Pitt, Martin, Duplin, and the Northern Outer Banks, effective from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday. According to the advisory, exposed skin can face frostbite risks, while prolonged outdoor exposure could lead to hypothermia.

Residents are urged to wear layered clothing, hats, and gloves if venturing outdoors. Keeping pets indoors is also strongly recommended.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear with lows near 25°F. Winds from the west at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 17 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny but cold, with highs near 40°F. Northwest winds will make it feel colder, gusting up to 16 mph.

Wednesday Night: Clear skies with a low of 19°F, making it one of the coldest nights this week.

Thursday and Friday: Sunny conditions will persist, with daytime highs warming to the mid-40s and low 50s, respectively.

Weekend Outlook: Rain returns Saturday, with highs around 60°F. Showers could extend into Sunday and Monday.

The advisory highlights the importance of staying vigilant, especially for vulnerable populations and outdoor workers. Local officials recommend checking heating systems, bringing in outdoor plants, and ensuring pets have warm shelter.
