Joliet, IL – A Shorewood woman was hospitalized after her vehicle crashed into a McDonald’s restaurant Tuesday afternoon, injuring one customer.
The incident occurred at 4:14 p.m. at the McDonald’s on 4280 West Jefferson Street. Police said Esther Baker-Williams, 70, was westbound on West Jefferson in a Nissan Versa when she rear-ended a GMC Acadia driven by a 55-year-old Joliet man.
The impact caused Baker-Williams’ vehicle to veer left, cross eastbound lanes, and crash into the McDonald’s north side, stopping inside the dining area. A 31-year-old Plainfield man seated inside suffered minor leg injuries from debris.
Baker-Williams was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said she may have experienced a medical event prior to the crash. The GMC driver was uninjured.
The building sustained significant damage, prompting a city inspector’s review. Baker-Williams was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Local authorities continue their investigation.
