University of Michigan Student Struck in Ann Arbor Pedestrian Crash

Ann Arbor, MI – A 24-year-old University of Michigan student suffered serious injuries in a pedestrian crash on N. University Avenue Monday morning. The incident occurred near S. Thayer Street at approximately 11:25 a.m.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, the pedestrian was crossing mid-block when a vehicle, driven by a 72-year-old Ypsilanti woman, struck him. The driver was heading westbound on N. University Avenue. Emergency responders, including Ann Arbor Fire Department, Huron Valley Ambulance, and University of Michigan Police, arrived at the scene.

The pedestrian was unconscious and transported by Huron Valley Ambulance to the University of Michigan Emergency Room. Medical staff reported that he remains in serious but stable condition. The driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with investigators.

Police noted that speeding and reckless driving are not considered factors in the crash. However, drug and alcohol use remain under investigation. The driver also sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by the Ann Arbor Fire Department.

Authorities are reminding drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution, especially near high-traffic areas and crosswalks. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
