Gaylord, MI – A winter storm warning remains in effect across northern Michigan, with heavy snow and gusty winds expected through Saturday morning. Up to 9 inches of snow is forecast in parts of Otsego and Charlevoix counties, creating treacherous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, lake effect snow will intensify throughout Friday, reducing visibility and making roads slick. Winds gusting up to 35 mph will create areas of blowing snow, especially on major routes such as I-75 and M-32. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution if travel is unavoidable.

Snowfall is expected to taper off late Saturday, but frigid temperatures will linger, with lows near 14 degrees Saturday night. Highs will only reach the low 20s on Sunday under mostly cloudy skies, keeping roads icy.

Additional snow showers could develop next week, with chances of accumulation increasing Tuesday night through Wednesday. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates and keep emergency kits in their vehicles when traveling.

Officials recommend staying indoors during the storm and avoiding non-essential travel. Those heading out should prepare for delays and carry extra blankets, food, and water in case of emergencies.

Stay tuned for more updates on the storm’s progress and additional advisories.
