Fort Wayne, IN – Residents across northern Indiana should brace for significant winter weather impacts this weekend as a Winter Storm Watch goes into effect from 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday. Snowfall of 4 to 6 inches is expected, with strong winds and frigid temperatures likely to create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snowfall will begin Sunday evening and continue through the Monday morning commute, affecting areas south of US 24, including Grant, Blackford, and Jay counties. Wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph could cause blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility on major roadways.

Residents are advised to stock emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights. Prepare your vehicles with winter gear and ensure sufficient fuel levels. Officials urge drivers to limit non-essential travel during peak storm hours.

Temperatures will drop into the single digits early next week, with bitter wind chills expected. Those traveling Sunday night through Monday should check updated road conditions via Indiana’s Department of Transportation or weather.gov.

The five-day forecast shows continued cold conditions beyond Monday. Highs will struggle to reach the teens through midweek, while lows remain in the single digits. The next significant system could bring additional precipitation late next week.

Stay informed with updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management. Travel safely and prepare early to minimize storm-related disruptions.
