Charleston, WV – Mountain snow and gusty winds continue to challenge travel conditions across higher elevations in West Virginia this Saturday. Drivers are urged to use caution as blowing and drifting snow impact visibility, particularly near mountain passes and along key roadways such as Interstate 64.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, snowfall is tapering off this afternoon, but strong winds will persist, creating hazardous conditions. Lower elevations are seeing dreary skies, with thick cloud cover and occasional drizzle expected throughout the day. Temperatures are hovering in the mid-40s, limiting snowfall accumulation outside mountain areas.

Sunday offers relief with mostly sunny skies and highs near 56 degrees, ideal for outdoor activities or pre-Thanksgiving travel. However, early next week could see another shift in weather, with rain showers likely Monday evening into Tuesday. Temperatures on Monday will rise to 62 degrees before dropping to 43 overnight.

Thanksgiving Day brings increased chances of rain, with temperatures around 50 degrees and overnight lows near freezing. The weekend is an excellent time for finalizing holiday travel plans while roads are clear.

Residents in higher elevations should prepare for lingering snowdrifts and slick conditions. Those in lower areas can expect improving weather Sunday but should plan for potential rain early next week. Travelers along major routes like I-64 are advised to monitor conditions and drive cautiously.

Be sure to stay updated on weather changes by following local advisories and planning for potential disruptions during Thanksgiving travel.
