Lubbock, TX – Northwest Texas residents are facing a continued threat of severe weather through Friday night, with heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms expected to hit the region. A flood watch remains in effect across the Texas Panhandle, including Lubbock, with the potential for flash flooding along roadways such as US-84 and nearby areas. The National Weather Service advises residents to avoid flooded roads and to seek shelter if severe weather approaches.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, radar showed a line of thunderstorms moving through the Caprock early Friday morning, bringing gusty winds of up to 50 mph and possible hail. The storms, which began Thursday evening, are likely to produce locally heavy rainfall, potentially impacting travel conditions and low-lying areas through Friday afternoon. Creeks, streams, and other flood-prone areas could be affected by excessive runoff, posing risks for drivers and residents.

The flood watch, which went into effect Thursday at 6 p.m., is set to remain active until 6 p.m. Friday. Rain is expected to ease by Friday night, allowing for clearer and milder conditions on Saturday. Lubbock residents can anticipate sunshine and warmer temperatures by Saturday afternoon, with a high near 64°F. This calmer weather is forecast to continue through the weekend and into Veterans Day on Monday, which is expected to be sunny with a high of 70°F.

Overnight, temperatures are forecast to drop to around 49°F on Friday night, then warming gradually into the weekend. Clear skies and mild winds should dominate the region on Saturday night, with lows around 39°F. Sunday and Veterans Day on Monday are expected to bring more sunshine, with highs in the upper 60s and 70s.
