Morgan City, LA – Hurricane Francine made landfall in southern Louisiana at 5 p.m. CDT as a Category 2 storm. The storm hit Terrebonne Parish, located about 30 miles south-southwest of Morgan City. Francine brought maximum sustained winds of 100 mph (155 km/h) and a peak gust of 105 mph (169 km/h) near Eugene Island.
According to the National Ocean Service, pressure readings at Eugene Island dropped to 972 mb (28.71 inches). Heavy rains and hurricane-force winds are spreading rapidly inland, affecting areas across southern Louisiana.
The National Weather Service urges residents to shelter in place and stay away from windows. Residents should have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts as conditions worsen. Francine continues to move northeast at 17 mph (28 km/h), posing a significant threat to nearby regions.
