Columbia, SC – South Carolina residents should brace for a weekend of rising temperatures and the possibility of thunderstorms, especially on Saturday and Sunday. The National Weather Service in Columbia forecasts a return of summer heat, with highs ranging from the mid-80s to the low 90s across much of the state.
Saturday will bring partly to mostly sunny skies with isolated afternoon thunderstorms expected, mainly in the southeastern part of the state. Highs will range from 85 to 89 degrees, making it the warmest day of the weekend. According to the NWS, the increased heat combined with lingering moisture could trigger these isolated storms in the afternoon, particularly east of I-95.
On Friday, expect similar conditions with highs between 81 and 85 degrees, under mostly sunny skies. The day should remain dry due to high pressure keeping moisture at bay. This trend continues into Sunday, where temperatures are predicted to climb even higher, reaching 87 to 92 degrees. Isolated thunderstorms may again develop in the afternoon, primarily affecting the southeast.
