Morehead City, NC – Residents of Morehead City and surrounding areas in eastern North Carolina are being urged to prepare for continued torrential downpours as a Flood Watch remains in effect until midnight. The region, which has already experienced significant rainfall over the past few days, is now at heightened risk of flooding due to saturated soils.
According to the US National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, today’s rain chances exceed 60% across much of the area, with the highest probabilities concentrated around Morehead City. The rainfall could bring an additional 3 to 7 inches to areas already waterlogged, intensifying the threat of flash floods.
Local authorities are advising residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and to stay informed about the latest weather updates. The flood watch excludes only Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke, but the entire region is expected to see scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
