Eastern Idaho – A significant weather event is expected to affect Pocatello and surrounding areas today, bringing isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for strong thunderstorms, potentially producing wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, heavy rainfall, and hail. Pocatello residents should prepare for adverse weather conditions, particularly this afternoon when the storms are forecasted to peak.
According to the NWS Pocatello, a combination of wet and dry thunderstorms along with low relative humidity is expected to elevate the risk of critical fire weather conditions across much of Eastern Idaho. High temperatures in Pocatello and the surrounding region are expected to range from the mid-80s to mid-90s, intensifying the dry conditions.
The severe weather outlook highlights that the risk is particularly high for areas south and southeast of Pocatello, extending into the region’s more rural locales. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, secure loose outdoor items, and stay informed of any updates from local authorities as the day progresses. Emergency preparations for both severe weather and fire outbreaks are strongly encouraged.
