Walworth County, WI – The victim recovered from Lake Ivanhoe following a water rescue operation last week has been identified as a 64-year-old Kenosha County resident, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim Monday as Thomas J. Sater, 64, of Kenosha County. The identification was released as part of an update to the ongoing drowning investigation.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, after receiving a report of a kayak floating in the middle of Lake Ivanhoe in the Town of Lyons. At the time of the call, it was unknown whether anyone had been in or near the kayak.
Responding deputies and Bloomfield Police officers located the kayak overturned about 150 yards offshore. Authorities also found an adult male floating next to the kayak while wearing a life jacket. Officials said the man was unresponsive.
Lyons Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and requested a MABAS Division 103 Water Rescue box alarm. The Town of Delavan Air Boat was launched to assist with the recovery operation.
The victim was recovered from the water and pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:53 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to assist with the investigation. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident, and officials said the investigation remains ongoing.
