Paducah, KY – Dangerous heat and humidity are set to return to the region Wednesday afternoon, with heat index values potentially reaching 105 to 110 degrees. This extreme weather could vary depending on the timing of thunderstorm development. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade if they need to be outdoors.
According to the US National Weather Service Paducah, isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are expected Wednesday into Wednesday night. The slight risk area now includes most of the Quad State. The primary severe weather hazard will be damaging winds, along with heavy rain and frequent lightning.
Furthermore, multiple rounds of heavy rain are possible from Wednesday through Friday afternoon. The greatest potential for flooding issues is Wednesday afternoon and evening, with the heaviest rainfall of 2 to 4 inches expected across parts of southeast Missouri into southern Illinois. Isolated flash flooding is a significant concern. Drivers are urged to use caution, avoid flooded areas, and heed the advice: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
For the Fourth of July, showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue. The heat index values are expected to be in the upper 90s to mid-100s for most of the Quad State. The evening forecast includes temperatures in the lower 80s with scattered showers and storms. Residents should prepare for wet and potentially hazardous conditions during Independence Day celebrations.
