Blacksburg, Virginia – Residents across southwest Virginia and southeast West Virginia can expect another pleasant summer day with dry weather, comfortable humidity, and cooler-than-normal overnight temperatures. Sunshine and a refreshing breeze will make for ideal conditions for outdoor activities, while the lack of rain will allow travelers to enjoy smooth conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, skies will remain mostly clear today and tonight with no chance of rain. Afternoon highs will reach 70 to 80 degrees across the mountains and 83 to 88 degrees across the Piedmont, which is near seasonal averages for late July.

A breezy northwest wind will be most noticeable during the morning, with gusts between 15 and 20 mph before winds gradually diminish later in the day. Communities including Blacksburg, Roanoke, Christiansburg, Wytheville, Galax, and Lewisburg, West Virginia, can expect excellent visibility and favorable travel conditions along Interstates 64, 77, and 81.

Tonight, temperatures will cool well below recent nights, with lows falling into the 50 to 57 degree range across the mountains and 57 to 64 degrees across the Piedmont. The cooler air will provide comfortable sleeping conditions before another stretch of summer warmth gradually returns.

Take advantage of today’s dry weather for hiking, yard work, or travel, but keep in mind that the morning breeze may make it feel slightly cooler, especially at higher elevations. Additional forecast updates will be issued by the National Weather Service as weather conditions evolve into the weekend.
