Louisville, Kentucky – Residents across central Kentucky and southern Indiana have another stretch of pleasant summer weather before thunderstorms return this weekend. Dry conditions and lower humidity will continue through Friday, but a stronger weather system arriving late Friday night could bring heavy rain, localized flooding, and a few strong to severe thunderstorms on Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 85 degrees, followed by another warm day Friday with partly sunny skies and highs around 87 degrees. Comfortable humidity levels will make for excellent conditions across Louisville, Lexington, Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, Frankfort, and surrounding communities. Travel along Interstates 64, 65, and 71 is expected to remain free of weather-related impacts through Friday.
The weather changes Saturday as showers and thunderstorms spread into the region. Afternoon temperatures will top out near 82 degrees, but periods of heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding, especially in urban and low-lying areas. The Storm Prediction Center places much of central Kentucky in a Level 1 of 5 Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms, meaning isolated strong storms are possible.
The primary concerns Saturday include damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours capable of producing brief flooding. Residents with outdoor plans should have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and be prepared to move indoors quickly if storms approach.
Take advantage of the dry weather through Friday to complete outdoor activities before the unsettled pattern arrives. Additional watches or warnings may be issued as confidence increases in the timing and strength of Saturday’s storms.
