Monee, IL – Firefighters responded to an early morning semi-trailer fire along Interstate 57 in Will County after a brake and tire fire spread into the trailer carrying Amazon cargo, according to the Monee Fire Protection District.
According to the Monee Fire Protection District, crews were dispatched at 3:41 a.m. Sunday, July 26, 2026, to Interstate 57 southbound near Monee-Manhattan Road for a reported trailer fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found the trailer’s rear dual wheels fully involved in flames, with the fire extending into the trailer and its contents. Officials said the trailer was transporting non-hazardous Amazon cargo.
Preliminary investigators determined the fire originated with a brake and tire fire, which then spread into the trailer.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in approximately 45 minutes, though officials said extensive overhaul operations were required to extinguish remaining hot spots. The trailer was later moved off the interstate so crews could complete their work safely.
The Monee Fire Protection District requested mutual aid from the Manhattan, Beecher, University Park, and Frankfort fire departments. Those agencies assisted both at the scene and by providing station coverage while local crews remained committed to the incident.
No injuries were reported in the department’s release, and officials did not indicate whether the fire caused any extended traffic disruptions along the interstate.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
