Joliet, IL – Joliet police are investigating a fatal domestic violence incident after two people were found dead inside the attached garage of a home early Sunday morning, prompting an active investigation in a residential neighborhood.
According to the Joliet Police Department, officers responded at 5:14 a.m. Sunday, July 26, 2026, to the 1100 block of Loren Drive after a family member reported finding two unresponsive individuals. Officers located a 50-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, both suffering from apparent stab wounds. The Will County Coroner’s Office responded and pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the married couple, who lived together at the residence, became involved in a domestic-related confrontation inside the garage during the early morning hours. Investigators believe the man fatally stabbed the woman multiple times before taking his own life using the same knife, which police said was recovered at the scene.
Police said the couple’s two adult children and one juvenile child were inside the residence when officers arrived. Detectives have found no indication that anyone else was involved, and authorities said there is no known threat to the public.
Investigators conducted an extensive neighborhood canvass and continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The identities of the deceased, along with the official cause and manner of death, will be released by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
