Washington – Rain splashes across Spokane streets and windshields, but colder air is already moving in, setting up a rain-to-snow transition that could change road conditions fast.

According to the National Weather Service, steady rain continues through the day with temperatures climbing near 48°F before a shift begins. A rain and snow mix develops as colder air filters in, with temperatures dropping toward the low 30s later .

Across Spokane, Spokane Valley, and Airway Heights, roads stay wet through midday. That’s manageable for now. But as temperatures fall and precipitation lingers, slushy spots may begin forming, especially on bridges and less-traveled roads.

Drivers along I-90 and US-2 should stay alert. Visibility can drop during heavier bursts, and changing precipitation types may catch commuters off guard. Plan extra time and reduce speed if conditions worsen.

As skies begin to clear later, a bigger concern develops. Moisture left behind on pavement could refreeze as temperatures approach freezing. This is a classic spring “flash freeze” setup, where wet roads turn slick quickly after sunset.

By Friday, conditions improve with partly sunny skies and highs near the mid-50s. The first weekend of April brings a noticeable warm-up, with temperatures reaching the low 60s Saturday and upper 60s Sunday under increasing sunshine.

Looking ahead, early next week continues mild, with highs pushing toward the upper 60s before slight rain chances return midweek.
