Memphis, Tennessee – Warm, spring-like air is settling over the Mid-South now, but a sharp increase in temps and thunderstorm activity will begin disrupting travel by Wednesday afternoon and intensify through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures will climb into the upper 70s and mid-80s through Tuesday, running above normal across western Tennessee, north Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas. Dry conditions hold briefly, but rain chances begin increasing late Tuesday night, with widespread showers and thunderstorms likely by Wednesday and peaking Thursday with probabilities as high as 60 to 80 percent.

Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, and Tupelo are all expected to see multiple rounds of rainfall, especially along major routes like I-40, I-55, and U.S. 78. Forecasters indicate a 20 to 30 percent chance of rainfall totals exceeding 2 inches through Sunday, which could lead to ponding on roads and slower commutes during peak hours.

Residents should prepare for changing conditions by midweek, including checking drainage areas and planning extra travel time. While severe weather is not guaranteed, repeated storms may cause localized disruptions.

Rain chances persist into the weekend as a stalled front lingers over the Lower Mississippi Valley, with additional updates expected as the system evolves.
