North Webster, IN – Hot and humid summer weather will continue across northern Indiana this week, with heat index values nearing or exceeding 100 degrees before thunderstorms become more common heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, afternoon highs will remain in the lower to middle 90s through Thursday, while humidity pushes peak heat index values between 95 and 103 degrees. The hottest conditions are expected during the afternoon and early evening each day.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with highs ranging from 92 to 96 degrees. Similar conditions continue Wednesday, with temperatures climbing into the 92 to 98-degree range and heat index values reaching the upper 90s to around 100 degrees.

Thursday remains hot, with highs between 90 and 96 degrees. While much of the day will stay dry, there is a 10% to 20% chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.

The best opportunity for rain arrives Friday, when 30% to 60% chances of showers and thunderstorms spread across the region. High temperatures will ease slightly into the upper 80s and lower 90s, although humidity will keep heat index values in the upper 90s.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day. Spending time in air-conditioned buildings can help reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Anyone with outdoor plans later this week should also monitor the forecast as thunderstorms become more likely heading into Friday and the weekend.
