Memphis, TN – A stretch of cooler-than-normal July weather will continue across the Mid-South for several more days, keeping afternoon highs below 90 degrees before temperatures gradually rebound later this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures are expected to remain several degrees below seasonal averages through Thursday or Friday, providing an unusual break from the typical mid-July heat.

Forecast highs across western Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and the Missouri Bootheel are expected to stay below 90 degrees through at least Thursday, with many locations reaching the middle to upper 80s each afternoon.

Forecasters also expect scattered afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms to develop each day. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, some storms could produce brief heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds before diminishing during the evening.

By late this week and into the weekend, temperatures are expected to gradually return to near-normal July levels, with highs climbing back into the upper 80s and lower 90s.

The temporary cooldown comes after an extended period of persistent summer heat and offers a brief window of more comfortable afternoon temperatures for outdoor activities. Even so, residents should remain weather-aware during the afternoon hours when thunderstorms are most likely to develop.

Anyone with outdoor plans should monitor the forecast for changing weather conditions and be prepared to seek shelter if thunderstorms approach.
