Bangor, ME – Hot and increasingly humid conditions are expected to return Tuesday across the Bangor region, setting the stage for potentially severe thunderstorms later in the day and into Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, temperatures are forecast to climb into the lower 90s across parts of central Maine, including the Bangor area. The combination of heat and humidity is expected to create favorable conditions for thunderstorms capable of becoming severe during the late afternoon and evening.

Forecasters say the primary threat will be damaging wind gusts, although large hail reaching golf ball size is also possible with the strongest storms. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially during the late afternoon and evening as storms intensify.

Some showers and thunderstorms may develop Tuesday morning into the early afternoon. According to the National Weather Service, the timing and coverage of those earlier storms could influence how quickly the atmosphere recovers and how intense the evening storms ultimately become.

Residents across Bangor, Orono, Old Town, Brewer, and surrounding communities are encouraged to stay weather-aware throughout Tuesday, particularly if outdoor plans are scheduled during the afternoon or evening. Multiple methods of receiving weather warnings are recommended, especially overnight when severe weather may continue.

The National Weather Service advises monitoring the latest forecasts and being prepared to move indoors quickly if severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings are issued.
