Boston, MA – Dangerous heat is building across much of the Mid-Atlantic and New England, with temperatures climbing into the 90s and heat index values approaching or exceeding 100 degrees from Pennsylvania to Maine through Wednesday.
According to multiple National Weather Service forecast offices, Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to bring the hottest weather of the week to much of the Northeast. Heat advisories have been issued for portions of the region, while forecasters warn that high humidity will make outdoor conditions feel even hotter than the actual air temperature.
Communities from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine are expected to experience dangerous heat, although coastal areas may remain somewhat cooler because of ocean breezes. Inland locations are forecast to reach the lower to mid-90s, with heat index values climbing into the upper 90s and lower 100s.
The National Weather Service says the prolonged heat may increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and people without access to air conditioning. Warm overnight temperatures are also expected to provide little relief in many locations.
Health officials recommend staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, wearing lightweight clothing, and taking frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces. Residents are also encouraged to check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat.
Forecasters expect the hottest conditions to continue through Wednesday before temperatures gradually ease later in the week across parts of the Northeast.
