East Glacier Park, MT – Travel across Glacier National Park will become hazardous within hours as snow and powerful wind gusts begin impacting roads by 8 p.m. Sunday, threatening visibility and the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Monday for the East Glacier Park region, including Marias Pass, Logan Pass, and Saint Mary. Snow totals will reach 2 to 4 inches in lower elevations, while Marias Pass could see up to 8 inches and the highest peaks approach 15 inches. Winds will gust up to 50 mph, with isolated gusts hitting 65 mph.
Blowing snow will sharply reduce visibility along U.S. Highway 2 near Marias Pass and surrounding mountain routes, increasing the risk of spinouts and closures overnight. Areas like Babb, Kiowa, and East Glacier Park will see accumulating snow combine with crosswinds, making travel especially dangerous for high-profile vehicles.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check conditions through Montana 511 before heading out. Keep emergency supplies in vehicles and avoid overnight travel if possible.
Conditions improve after 10 a.m. Monday, but slick roads and lingering snowpack may continue to affect travel. Additional advisories remain possible if winds persist.
