New Orleans, Louisiana – Heavy rain signals are intensifying along the Gulf Coast just ahead of Easter, with some areas facing up to a 70% likelihood of above-normal precipitation during a critical travel window.

According to the National Weather Service’s 8–14 day outlook issued March 27, a strong corridor of wetter-than-average conditions will stretch from eastern Texas across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and into the Florida Panhandle between Saturday and the following weekend. The highest probabilities, between 60% and 70%, are centered on cities including Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Gulfport, Mobile, and Pensacola.

This setup places major travel routes like I-10, I-12, and I-65 at risk for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during heavier rounds of rain. Urban areas such as Houston and New Orleans could also see brief street flooding if repeated downpours develop.

Farther into the Florida Peninsula, including Tampa and Jacksonville, rain chances ease slightly into the 40% to 50% range but remain elevated enough to impact outdoor Easter services and gatherings.

Temperatures across the Gulf Coast will run above seasonal averages, fueling moisture-rich conditions that support steadier rainfall. No cold-weather impacts are expected, but persistent rain could disrupt both travel and outdoor plans.

Residents should prepare for wet conditions, allow extra time on the roads, and consider indoor alternatives for Easter events. This active pattern is expected to persist through the holiday window, with additional updates likely as timing and rainfall totals become clearer.
