Chittenden County, VT Man Cited on Firearm Possession Charge

Burlington, VT – A Burlington man has been cited on a firearm possession charge after Chittenden County Sheriff’s deputies said they determined he was legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

According to the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office, deputies came into contact with 38-year-old James A. Sicard on May 21, 2026.

During the encounter, deputies said they found Sicard in possession of a Remington shotgun. Following an investigation, authorities determined he was prohibited by law from possessing firearms.

Sicard was issued a criminal citation ordering him to appear in Chittenden County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, to answer a charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

The sheriff’s office did not release additional details about why Sicard was prohibited from possessing firearms or the circumstances surrounding the initial contact.
