Minneapolis, Minnesota – A developing rain pattern across the Upper Midwest could bring damp conditions into the Easter holiday window, with multiple systems increasing the risk for wet travel and outdoor disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service’s 8–14 day outlook issued March 27, a broad zone of near to above-normal precipitation will set up from Iowa through Minnesota, Wisconsin, and into Michigan between Saturday and the following weekend. Probabilities generally range from 40% to 60%, with the higher end of that range centered from Iowa into southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Cities including Minneapolis, Des Moines, and Madison are most likely to see repeated rounds of rain, while Milwaukee and Chicago sit in a steady 50% zone that supports periodic showers during peak Easter travel times. Farther east, Grand Rapids and Detroit face slightly lower but still impactful chances for wet conditions.

Major corridors such as I-35, I-94, and I-90 could see slick stretches and reduced visibility during heavier rainfall, especially during busy holiday travel periods. While widespread flooding is not indicated, brief ponding on roadways will be possible.

Temperatures across the region will trend above seasonal averages, ensuring precipitation falls as rain and not snow. That warmer pattern also supports increased moisture, which may lead to steadier rainfall at times.

Residents should prepare for wet roads, allow extra travel time, and keep indoor alternatives in mind for Easter plans. This pattern remains active through the holiday window, with updates expected as confidence in timing improves.
