Farmington, WI – A large dairy barn in the Town of Farmington was destroyed in an early morning fire Monday, causing an estimated loss exceeding $1 million and prompting a massive multi-department response.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was reported at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Monday, June 22, after a passerby noticed smoke and flames coming from the east side of a barn along Trading Post Trail. The caller also reported hearing an electrical buzzing sound and alerted residents on the property.

Deputies arriving at the scene found the structure fully engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke throughout the area. The Fillmore Fire Department initially responded and quickly upgraded the incident to a Box Alarm before later elevating it to a Third Alarm as firefighters battled the growing blaze.

Fire departments from across Washington and Ozaukee counties responded to assist, including Boltonville, Newburg, Kewaskum, Jackson, Kohlsville, West Bend, Waubeka, Silver Creek, Fredonia, Random Lake, Belgium, Ozaukee Central Fire Department-Saukville, and Beechwood.

Authorities said Eble Land and Water Management provided heavy equipment to help remove large amounts of stored straw and assist with debris removal from the collapsed structure.

Trading Post Trail was closed for approximately six hours while crews worked to contain the fire and secure the scene.

Officials reported no injuries to firefighters, residents, or other emergency personnel.

The barn, which included a milking parlor, was declared a total loss. Damage estimates are expected to exceed $1 million.

Investigators do not believe the fire was suspicious in nature. Authorities also confirmed that none of the dairy cattle on the property were harmed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
