Beaver, WV – A man has been arrested in connection with a 2024 double homicide investigation in Raleigh County, according to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Frank Priddy announced Friday that deputies originally responded on June 22, 2024, to a reported shooting incident in Beaver, West Virginia. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two individuals suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
Authorities identified the victims as Dennis Gwinn and James Griffith, both of whom died at the scene.
Detectives with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office launched an extensive investigation led by Detective R.A. Robinson. Officials said the investigation ultimately resulted in the arrest of Joshua Reeves on May 19, 2026.
According to the sheriff’s office, Reeves has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, one count of wanton endangerment, one count of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and one count of felony conspiracy.
Investigators also announced that arrest warrants have been obtained for Ranny Smith Jr., who is currently incarcerated in another state. Authorities said those warrants will be executed at a later date.
The sheriff’s office stated the investigation remains ongoing and additional details have not yet been released.
Officials have not disclosed what investigators believe led to the shooting or whether additional suspects may be involved.
All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
