Burlington, Vt. – Steady rain developing this afternoon across Vermont is expected to transition into snow showers by this evening as temperatures drop.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, rainfall totals between 0.15 and 0.30 inches are expected through the day before colder air moves in. By evening, precipitation will shift to snow, with a dusting up to 1 to 2 inches possible in some areas.

Temperatures will climb into the mid-50s to mid-60s this afternoon before falling sharply overnight, dropping below freezing by Friday.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, the transition from rain to snow combined with falling temperatures could create slick spots on roads, particularly during the evening and overnight hours.

No major impacts are anticipated, but changing conditions may affect travel as precipitation type shifts later in the day.

The timing may be noticeable for commuters and students traveling during the evening as road conditions begin to change.
