Verona, VA – Authorities in Augusta County are actively investigating a double homicide after two people were found dead inside a home in the Verona area Monday afternoon.
According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1:12 p.m. on May 11, 2026, to the 700 block of Indian Mound Road for a welfare check requested by family members.
Once inside the residence, deputies located an elderly man and an elderly woman deceased. Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims.
The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation and remains on scene. Authorities say the case is being treated as a double homicide, though no additional details about suspects or circumstances have been made public.
Emergency responders from the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad, Verona Fire Department, and Staunton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
