Trenton, ME – A domestic violence investigation in Hancock County led to the discovery of explosive devices and the arrest of a local man, according to Maine State Police.

According to authorities, troopers responded around 9:37 a.m. Saturday, May 9, to a reported domestic violence incident at a residence on Oak Point Road in Trenton. While en route, officers learned the male suspect had left the home and may have been in possession of hazardous explosive materials.

Troopers later located the suspect’s vehicle at a residence on Bar Harbor Road, where they secured the scene. Officials confirmed that the female involved in the initial incident was not injured.

Investigators from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Maine State Police Bomb Squad responded to assist. During the investigation, several improvised explosive devices and materials used to manufacture them were located and safely rendered inert.

Authorities identified the suspect as 43-year-old Anthony Nickerson of Trenton, who was taken into custody without incident.

Nickerson has been charged with domestic violence assault, possession of firearms by a prohibited person, arson, and criminal use of explosives. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing.

Multiple agencies, including the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Bar Harbor Police Department, and local fire and rescue teams, assisted in the response.

Residents in the Trenton and greater Bar Harbor area may notice increased law enforcement presence as the investigation continues.
