Tucson, AZ – Drivers on Interstate 10 near Tucson should prepare for major traffic changes starting this week as part of a long-term bridge and interchange project.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, right lanes on I-10 between mileposts 292 and 293 near the Amole Bridge will be closed westbound beginning Wednesday, May 13. Eastbound lane closures are scheduled to begin Thursday, May 21.
Traffic in both directions will be shifted to the left lanes, which had previously been closed during earlier phases of construction. The changes are expected to remain in place through fall 2026 as work continues on the I-10 Amole Traffic Interchange and Union Pacific Railroad bridge rehabilitation project.
Officials also announced closures impacting ramps at Empirita Road. The westbound on-ramp and eastbound off-ramp will be shut down starting the night before traffic shifts begin, potentially affecting commuters traveling between Tucson and Benson.
According to ADOT, these restrictions are necessary to allow crews to safely continue bridge and infrastructure improvements in the area.
Drivers traveling through Pima County and the greater Tucson metro are encouraged to plan ahead, expect delays, and follow posted signage. Alternate routes may be necessary, especially during peak travel times.
Construction is expected to continue into late 2026.
