Indianapolis, IN – Dozens of people were forced to evacuate a north side restaurant late Saturday night after a fire broke out and spread to the building’s roof.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, the incident began around 10:03 p.m. at Sullivan’s Steakhouse, located at 3316 East 86th Street in Marion County. Officials said the fire originated in the kitchen exhaust hood system before extending upward to the roof.
Fire crews arrived to find visible flames coming from the roof while the business was still operating. Approximately 45 employees and visitors were safely evacuated as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Multiple 911 callers reported seeing flames from outside the building. Firefighters launched what officials described as an aggressive interior and exterior attack, bringing the fire under control in about 26 minutes.
No injuries were reported among staff, patrons, or first responders.
Authorities said the Marion County Public Health Department also responded to the scene. The full extent of damage to the restaurant has not yet been released, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The incident temporarily shut down activity along East 86th Street as emergency crews worked at the scene. It is unclear when the restaurant will reopen.
