Las Vegas, Nevada – Drivers, tourists, and outdoor workers faced near-summer heat Wednesday as temperatures surged to 98°F, setting a new daily and monthly record and extending a historic streak across Southern Nevada.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, the 98°F reading broke the previous March 25 record of 90°F set in 2022 and also established a new all-time March high, surpassing 97°F recorded just five days earlier. The agency confirmed this marks eight consecutive days of record-breaking high temperatures, the longest such streak ever observed in Las Vegas.
The prolonged heat has pushed pavement temperatures well above 120°F during peak afternoon hours, impacting areas along Interstate 15, the Las Vegas Strip, and Harry Reid International Airport operations.
Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during peak heat between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., stay hydrated, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Workers in construction zones across Clark County should take frequent breaks and monitor for heat-related illness.
Relief is expected to begin building early next week as temperatures trend downward, though above-average warmth may linger through the weekend.
