Davenport, Iowa – Thunderstorms could disrupt the Thursday evening commute across the Quad Cities, with a risk for strong winds and hail developing by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a cold front will move southeast across eastern Iowa and western Illinois Thursday afternoon into the evening. Storms are expected to develop after 4 p.m., with a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) severe risk focused south and east of a Fairfield to Moline to Sterling-Rock Falls line.

Cities including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, and Rock Island could see storms intensify quickly, producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and pockets of large hail. Travel along I-74, I-80, and US-61 may become hazardous during heavier downpours, with reduced visibility and brief ponding on roadways.

Uncertainty remains in the exact timing and strength of storms, but any cell that strengthens could create short bursts of severe conditions during the evening hours. Areas farther southeast toward Galesburg and Burlington may see a higher chance for stronger storms.

Residents should monitor weather alerts Thursday afternoon, secure outdoor items, and plan for rapidly changing conditions during the evening commute. Additional updates and possible warnings may be issued as the cold front approaches.
