Spencer County IN Crash: 1 Dead After SR-162 Collision Near Saint Meinrad

Spencer County, Indiana – A fatal two-vehicle crash Monday evening near Saint Meinrad left one driver dead and another seriously injured, prompting an ongoing investigation in southern Indiana.

According to Indiana State Police, troopers responded around 8:20 p.m. Monday to a crash on State Road 162 just north of State Road 62, west of Saint Meinrad. The collision involved two vehicles and resulted in a fatality at the scene.

Investigators said a 37-year-old woman from Dale was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer northbound on SR-162, while a 40-year-old man, also from Dale, was driving a Dodge Durango southbound. Authorities said the Trailblazer allegedly crossed the center line and struck the Durango head-on.

Police said the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver was transported by ambulance to Deaconess Memorial Medical Center in Jasper with serious injuries and was listed in stable condition.

Officials confirmed that family members of the deceased have been notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday as part of the investigation.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Claus Police Department, Spencer County EMS, and the Spencer County Coroner’s Office.

Indiana State Police said the crash remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.
