River Falls, Wisconsin – A suspect is in custody after an alleged stabbing at a bank in River Falls, followed by a crash involving a city vehicle, according to authorities in Pierce County near the Twin Cities metro.
According to the City of River Falls, officers responded Monday to First National Bank on East Locust Street after reports that a male suspect allegedly attempted to steal money and stabbed a bank employee before fleeing the scene.
Police said the suspect was later seen driving eastbound on Cascade Avenue near Sixth Street when the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an unmarked River Falls Police Department parking enforcement vehicle. Both vehicles were disabled in the crash.
Authorities said the suspect then allegedly fled on foot but was taken into custody a short time later. The parking enforcement officer involved in the crash was not seriously injured.
The injured bank employee was transported by Allina EMS to River Falls Area Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, officials said.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Prescott Police Department, University of Wisconsin–River Falls Police Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
No additional details about charges or the suspect’s identity were immediately released.
