Gaylord, MI – Drivers across Northern Michigan face a tight morning travel window Tuesday as snow redevelops by 5 a.m., potentially cutting visibility and coating roads just in time for the early commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a new round of snow is expected between 5 a.m. and noon Tuesday, with the greatest impact along and north of M-72, including Gaylord, Grayling, and Alpena corridors. Forecasters warn of brief reductions in visibility and snow-covered stretches during peak travel hours.
Conditions remain relatively quiet overnight Monday with lows dipping between 10 and 23 degrees under partly clear skies, but clouds will quickly rebuild before daybreak. The morning system is not expected to produce heavy accumulation, yet even light snowfall could create slick conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Beyond Tuesday, a more unsettled pattern takes hold. Rain and snow showers spread across the region Wednesday, especially north of M-32, before continuing into Thursday with a mix of precipitation and rising daytime highs into the upper 30s and low 50s.
Drivers should allow extra time, keep headlights on during low visibility, and monitor local alerts. Additional advisories may be issued as conditions evolve through midweek.
