Boston, Massachusetts – Drivers across eastern Massachusetts could encounter sudden visibility drops and slick roads within the next few hours as scattered snow showers push into the Boston area this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, bursts of snow and a few heavier squalls will move through neighborhoods between late afternoon and around 10 p.m., with some spots briefly whitening the ground. While widespread accumulation remains limited, quick coatings on untreated roads could create hazards, especially along I-90, I-93, and Route 128 during the evening commute.
Cities including Cambridge, Quincy, and Lynn may see brief reductions in visibility below one mile as heavier pockets pass through. South of Boston, areas like Brockton and New Bedford could see lighter activity, but temperatures hovering near freezing increase the risk of slick overpasses.
Once the snow tapers off, colder air settles in overnight. Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s to low 30s by daybreak Tuesday, allowing any leftover moisture to refreeze. That raises the risk for black ice on secondary roads, sidewalks, and parking lots.
Drivers should slow down during bursts of snow, use headlights in low visibility, and watch for icy patches early Tuesday morning. Additional updates may follow if heavier squalls develop this evening.
