Melbourne, Florida – Beachgoers along Florida’s Atlantic coast face an immediate safety risk today as 2 to 3 foot surf drives a moderate rip current threat, prompting warnings to stay near lifeguards or avoid entering the water altogether.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, hazardous marine conditions will continue through Monday evening across the Daytona, Space Coast, and Treasure Coast beaches, with rip currents likely even under sunny skies. Officials urge swimmers to avoid unguarded areas and to float and signal for help if caught in a current.

Calm, warm conditions inland will give way quickly by Tuesday afternoon as a cold front pushes into East Central Florida. Storm chances climb to 50 to 60 percent in cities including Orlando, Melbourne, and Daytona Beach, with lightning and brief heavy downpours expected to disrupt travel along I-95 and U.S. 1.

By Wednesday, scattered storms continue with highs in the mid-70s to mid-80s. Some storms could intensify during peak heating hours, raising the risk for lightning delays at outdoor events and slower evening commutes.

Conditions begin to stabilize Thursday as drier air moves in, followed by a return to warm, sunny weather heading into Friday.

More advisories may be issued as storm timing becomes clearer, especially for coastal and afternoon inland impacts.
