Duluth, MN – Gusty winds and chilly air are settling across northern Minnesota today, with wind gusts up to 30 mph making it feel even colder as highs struggle to reach the low 40s.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, cooler air behind a departing cold front is driving breezy west-northwest winds between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts peaking near 30 mph through Saturday afternoon. Despite dry conditions, temperatures will remain well below average for mid-April.

Communities across the Arrowhead region, including Duluth, Hibbing, International Falls, and Grand Marais, will see daytime highs ranging from 30°F to 42°F, with overnight lows dropping into the teens and 20s. The combination of wind and cold could create uncomfortable conditions for outdoor activities.

Travel impacts remain limited, but drivers along U.S. Highway 53 and Highway 61 should be alert for strong crosswinds, especially near open areas and along Lake Superior.

Conditions improve Sunday with lighter winds and sunshine, though temperatures remain cool. A more noticeable warm-up arrives Monday, with highs climbing into the 50s and 60s.

The National Weather Service is also asking residents, particularly in northwest Wisconsin, to report any storm damage from recent activity as crews assess impacts.
